Ralph, it's a great abstract with a stunning effect of the mediums you used to create these different layers of texture.. Could I use this picture to show my students next Monday? I teach Art Abstracts for Intermediate advanced students at the Academy of lifelong learning in Wilmington DE . ~Love and Light, Olga
"I haven't the right sort of imagination to paint abstracts, but I like a good one when I see it, and this is a good one. It has the lot, really - texture, warm colour, interesting shapes, and a different perspective depending on the light thrown on it and the direction from which it's examined."
"Im not a great fan of abstract, but there are those abstracts out there that just catch your eye and this did it for me, it has great texture and I love the way the pieces of polystyrene are placed, they sort of give the impression of dried flowers and leaves, and I love the darker shadows at the bottom, truly beautiful painting, I love it."
"Interesting texture, which I am sure we are not seeing to its best as a photo. I have also dabbled in abstracts with texture as you might have seen on my gallery. I find use of texture sort of frees up work as you can really fiddle too much when you are dealing with rough texture as a base. I used various hand made papers and corrugated cardboard with texture paste and wood based glue. I have never thought of polystyrene but I suppose with acrylic paint you can cover it and model it as you like. I will give it a try. Thanks for posting this and well done for trying something new."
